⚔️ABOUT THE WEAPONS⚔️
The Italian foil is a traditional weapon of the Italian school of fencing and uses traditional fencing conventions. Unlike its French foil counterpart, the Italian foil kept aspects of earlier sword designs such as the ricasso making it feel more like a "real sword." We train with the foil along side the dueling sword during class.
The dueling sword (spada), sometimes called the Italian smallsword, is an incredibly light and maneuverable weapon that evolved from the older rapier fencing systems. It’s a thrust-centric weapon with lightning-fast blade actions, explosive attacks, and dynamic blade exchanges.
The dueling saber (sciabola) is a slightly curved sword designed to cut and thrust. The Italian dueling saber is a robust system, giving practitioners a wide variety of techniques and tactics to utilize in combat.
