Continuing Oil Painting (5 weeks) with Matthew Carter

As a follow on from Introduction to Oil Painting or for those with some oil painting experience, this course explores various oil painting techniques and approaches, focusing on three main projects.

First, we will practice mixing and applying paint using the Zorn palette, working from a photograph and employing the alla prima (wet on wet) technique.

Next, we will expand our view to a larger interior within the studio, practicing linear perspective, sighting, and other skills that artists use while continuing to explore the nature of oil paint.

Finally, for the last three weeks, students will choose their own subjects and work on a larger piece (A2 or bigger) sustained over a longer period, during which we will discuss scaling up, paint layers, mark-making, and other techniques.
