This is a unique opportunity to study portraiture under one of New Zealand's most notable and respected figurative artists.
This four day workshop will focus on realist techniques in portrait drawing and painting, whilst observing directly from the model. Students will draw for the first half of the workshop working on several portraits using a range of pencils, charcoal, blenders, chalk pastels. Methods taught will focus on tone, light, proportion, planes and anatomical structure.
On the afternoon of the third day students will begin portrait painting in acrylic using a wet into wet painting technique and a limited palette. An understanding of light and shadow will be applied to palette organisation for portrait painting. Discussions will involve colour perception, flesh tones and paint application..
