In this life drawing workshop students will draw from the nude model using a range of wet and dry medium using charcoal, chalk, ink and pencil on large pieces of paper. Beginning with a series of quick poses students will be encouraged to explore gestural drawing by paying attention to the action and movement of the pose. By concentrating on the inner curve and pathways in and around the body, students will develop an understanding of energy and vitality of the living human form which facilitates enhanced expression in life drawing.
As the weekend progresses students will work on longer poses where contemporary approaches to proportion and light will be discussed adding depth to the drawn figure. The history of the gestural curve will be referenced from William Hogarth’s text ‘Line of Beauty’.
Gesture, and action drawing will be demonstrated to students’ highlighting concepts and principles discussed.
