Let there be Light (Stage 2) with Leigh Martin

Working with your own project in mind, this course explores the fundamental role of light in revealing form and space. The world around us becomes visible only through illumination. Light not only allows us to see but also shapes our perception of form, texture, and depth. Whether light falls naturally or is deliberately directed, it plays a crucial role in defining objects and environments.

Each week, there will be an introductory workshop that explores practical techniques and historical methods used by artists to depict form, space, texture, and atmosphere and will provide guidance and tools for students to integrate these concepts into their personally chosen subjects. Students will then work on their own self-initiated projects for the remainder of the session.

Designed for artists with interests ranging from pure abstraction to observational realism, this project encourages a broad spectrum of approaches. It fosters a deeper understanding of light—both as a technical tool and an expressive element—helping students convey specific atmospheres within their work. Additionally, this course serves as a platform for those seeking to refine their skills and develop a more personal, intentional approach to representation and artistic expression.

Note: Please come prepared with your own ideas, goals, and materials so you can get started from day one
