A school holiday workshop for teenagers to teach basic watercolour techniques and delve into this luminous painting medium.

Together we will explore, experiment and build confidence, learning to create dynamic compositions through use of line, colour, texture and form. Students will paint watercolour washes and gradients, use wet on wet, wet on dry and dry brush techniques to achieve a range of mark-making, and to build layers of colour. They will practice both observational skills using still life arrangements, and explore abstraction. Basic colour mixing skills and use of tonal values will be covered.

The course will include technical demonstrations and one to one feedback and guidance. We will also look at artists who have worked with watercolour to great effect and discuss art historical references to highlight concepts and techniques.
