Let there be Light - Painting (Stage 1) with Leigh Martin
This course provides students who have completed ‘Let There Be Light: Drawing’ with the opportunity to continue their progress into painting.
Additionally, this 5-week painting component is ideal for anyone wanting to go straight into painting without having attended the drawing section of the complete course.
The course offers the opportunity to employ various painting approaches, helping students understand how to successfully depict light both practically and emotively.
During the course students will be introduced to valuable processes and techniques, whether their interests are representational or abstract. It also offers a platform for anyone wanting to develop their skills from underpainting through to completed work
Specialist art shops are the best option and will provide student discounts if you mention that you are
attending the school. The stores we recommend are:
• Studio Art Supplies Crummer Road, Grey Lynn
• The French Art Shop Taylors Road, Morningside (Beside Briscoes)
• Gordon Harris Gillies Avenue, Newmarket and Symonds Street, Auckland Central
• Takapuna Art Supplies Helensville or online
Materials required:
• A variety of paint brushes: ensure one is a thick, flat brush and one a smaller, tipped brush
• Paper and pen for notes
• Palette knife
• Rags and kitchen towels for cleaning
• Appropriate clothing: apron or old shirt
• Small canvas panels / boards (don’t purchase until discussed)
• 2 small jars with lids to store mediums
Paints and mediums are provided and are included in the cost of the course.
At Browne School of Art we also have a selection of basic materials available for purchase: paper in A1 / A2 sheets: newsprint, cartridge, sugar grey, wet strength, bulldog clips, pencils, charcoal, erasers, white chalk, black ink.
