Yoga for Mental Wellbeing

Details

These weekly classes are brought to you by Bristol Yoga Roots Project. We provide trauma-informed yoga classes for marginalised communities in Bristol.

What is yoga?

Yoga is a very old practice from South Asia which helps us to bring our bodies & minds into more connection. The main way we do this in yoga, is through our breath, simple movements and relaxation. You do not have to touch your toes or be really flexible to do yoga!

Who is this class for?

These classes are for anyone facing mental health struggles who find studios inaccessible - maybe because of finances, physical or mental health issues, body size, identity and/or experiences of trauma.

An element of self responsibility is required - this class is not appropriate if you are actively in crisis and without sufficient support in place. Support will always be available during class from the group and the two facilitators, but there will not be space for in-depth one-to-one processing or support outside of the class itself.

What to expect?

The class will be lead by two teachers, Leonie (they/them) & Lena (she/her).

Classes will generally start with some gentle breath exercises, then we’ll bring in some physical movement and end with some rest & a guided relaxation.

Just to be in class is enough. You can do as much or as little of this as you want, and it can be done on the floor or sitting on a chair.

Class numbers limited to 12.

There will be no hands on assists offered in this class.

Payment

We currently have funding until December 2024 to subsidise the cost of these classes and run them on a donation base.

We ask for a donation of £3-£5 per class. Payments will be taken via card reader or cash upon arrival. Please cancel your spot if you can no longer attend as spaces are limited.

No one will be turned away if you cannot afford to donate.

We plan to continue these classes beyond December 2024, at which point there will be more structured pricing.

Instructions

If you have a mat, please bring it along. If you don't, no worries, we will have some spare!
