Details

This is a blended course with the Online element of the training starting once booking is made. Within 24 hours of booking, you will receive an email with login details for the online part of your training which can then be accessed at any time.

Most learners should expect to allow an average of 20 hours to complete this part of the training which includes reflective activities for you to complete.

Once you have completed the Online part of the training you will attend one Face to Face activity training day with your trainer, based in Peterborough on 28/03/2024.

Level 2 qualification is subject to the completion of the Online Learning, Face to Face training and practical experience, and the completion of a workbook that meets the Assessment Criteria for this course.

Course costs

  • Initial deposit and registration fee chargeable at time of booking: £50 + VAT
  • Thanks to a generous grant from the Forestry Commission, the rest of this course is fully funded for learners who meet the conditions below

To access this funding you MUST meet the following criteria:

  • My setting is based in England.
  • I do not have a Forest School or Outdoor Learning qualification at Level 2 or 3.
  • I work with at least one group aged 11 – 16 who I plan to implement the training with.
  • Our organisation has a woodland space available for Outdoor Learning OR There is public woodland within walking distance that I plan to visit with my group after the training.

To ensure as many organisations benefit as possible, one subsidy is available per organisation but additional places on the training can be booked at full cost.

Standard Entry Requirements
Aged 16 years or over.
Level 1 qualification or equivalent (1 GCSE).
Current DBS Check.
A suitable First Aid qualification is useful to complement this course.

Content summary

  • Understanding the benefits and risks of using the outdoors as a learning environment.
  • Learning how to make an holistic approach to implementing outdoor learning – getting everyone ‘on board’ with your plans.
  • Planning & delivering seasonal outdoor learning by building specific skills and confidence in a range of areas that can be developed / enhanced in school grounds and in the local environment.
  • Linking to the curriculum
  • Knowing how to sustainably manage and improve outdoor learning environments, looking at ecological structures in the natural environment, identifying species in our own local natural environments.
  • Looking at the wider context of learning in the natural environment and making plans to use your local natural and built environment in curriculum delivery.
