Details

This free online workshop will be delivered by Dr Bernadette Jenner, Medical Doctor and Researcher for the POPPY study at Addenbrooke's Hospital.

This online talk will focus on the crucial steps you and your partner can take before pregnancy for a healthy and successful conception, as well as a smooth pregnancy journey. Preparing your body for pregnancy involves more than just preparing for the baby—it’s about optimising your overall health to create the best possible foundation for both you and your child.

Key topics include:

  • Blood Pressure and Pregnancy: High blood pressure is a major risk factor for pregnancy complications, including preeclampsia and fetal growth restriction. We’ll cover why managing blood pressure before conception is so important and offer practical tips on how to lower high blood pressure through diet, exercise and more.
  • The Importance of Managing Weight: Maintaining a healthy weight is essential for fertility and pregnancy health. We’ll discuss how being either underweight or overweight can affect your chances of conception, and how achieving a balanced weight can reduce the risk of complications such as gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, or premature birth.
  • Fitness and Reproductive Health: Physical fitness is linked to improved fertility and healthier pregnancies. We’ll discuss safe exercises for both in and out of pregnancy, and how staying active can reduce your risk of pregnancy complications.
  • Balancing Health for a Stronger Start: We’ll touch on how weight, blood pressure, and fitness are interconnected, and how focusing on all three can lead to a smoother conception and pregnancy journey.

Taking time to manage your health prior to pregnancy can lead to better outcomes for both you and your baby. This talk will give you the knowledge and tools to start preparing your body early on, helping you build a healthier foundation for pregnancy. Whether you're planning for a child soon or simply looking to get a head start, understanding these factors can make all the difference in achieving a healthy pregnancy and baby.
