Sharon Lea: Live Lecture Demonstration at Cheshire Clay Studios
We’re thrilled to welcome acclaimed potter Sharon Lea to Cheshire Clay Studios this autumn for an exclusive live lecture demonstration. This inspiring session will dive into the techniques, challenges, and artistry behind one of pottery’s most complex clays: throwing with porcelain
About Sharon Lea
Born in Britain and raised in the wild landscapes of New Zealand’s South Island, Sharon Lea creates ceramics rooted in nature. Her early exposure to wind-shaped rock, water-worn surfaces, and a background in botany fostered a lasting fascination with organic forms. Today, that connection continues to flow through her practice.
Sharon studied at Clay College in Stoke, where she is now a tutor. Her work is known for its expressive throwing lines, fluid shapes, and thoughtful use of natural materials—many sourced from her family’s own farm. From hand-built vessels to delicately thrown porcelain, her pieces explore the balance between spontaneity and control, form and function.
Porcelain is loved for its luminous beauty—and dreaded for its fickle nature. In this demo, Sharon will share her techniques for working confidently with this elegant yet challenging material. Whether you’ve struggled with porcelain in the past or simply want to watch a master at work, this is one not to miss.
