Foliage Impressions: Slab Built Dishes
Leaves, grasses and seed heads can leave beautiful and surprisingly intricate patterns in clay. In this relaxed two-hour mini workshop we’ll explore how pressing foliage into clay can create delicate textures and layered designs.
You’ll learn how to roll out a slab, arrange and layer foliage to create interesting compositions, and use simple formers to shape your clay into a small decorative dish. We’ll also show you how slip can be used to highlight the textures and bring out the detail of the patterns.
By the end of the session you’ll have created your own unique slab-built dish, ready for us to fire and glaze for you.
This workshop is suitable for those with some basic experience of working with clay — if you’re comfortable rolling out a slab and applying slip, you’ll be able to focus on the creative possibilities of the technique.
Firing and glazing of your finished piece is included in the workshop price.
