Glamorous Gals and Dapper Chaps Bike Ride 2024

Sunday, 16 June '24   10am – 11:30am BST
Exchange Square, Chester, CH1 2AR
12 spaces available

Details

Join us for a celebration of cycling in nice clothes! The Glamorous Gals and Dapper Chaps Bike Ride will take place on Sunday 16th June, as part of the Chester Active Travel Festival and Chester Green Weekend.

This free event is a fun ride where we hope that you will dress in style to demonstrate that nice clothes do not prevent you from enjoying the freedom of pedal power! lycra is not banned, but do dress up as much as you like – and maybe dress your bike up too!

We will leave from Exchange Square (the square by the new market) at 10am (so please arrive in good time). We will ride a route around Chester, taking in some of Chester’s cycling infrastructure, and making occasional stops, then return to Exchange Square about an hour and a half later.

Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult and any young person under 18 must have the consent of a parent/carer to take part).

Instructions

The ride will be about 6 miles, mostly level, and on both streets and shared off road paths, including a section of the canal towpath. It will be at a relaxed pace, will last about an hour and a half and we will have pauses along the way. We will start and finish at Exchange Square (the new square in the market) and have a celebratory ice cream (or similar) from The Pudding Place in the market, after the ride. After the ride we hope you will visit the Active Travel Festival in the town hall square and Exchange Square, and Chester Green Weekend in Grosvenor Park.

The ride leader will be Sue Booth, an experienced cyclist, and there will be a rider from Chester Cycling Campaign being the “tail end marker”. There will also be marshals to ensure safety at those places on the route which require a little extra care.

For those who may not be confident riding with traffic, the size of the group affords quite a high degree of protection from vehicles and will ensure maximum safety. The Leader and Tail End Marker mean that the extent of the group is clear to other road users.

We look forward to seeing you at Exchange Square on Sunday 16th June at 9.45am, ready to start the ride at 10am. Bring a lock for you bike (and your swipe card for the Cycle Hub, if you have one).
