Middle Eastern Percussion Workshop (Darbuka and Bendir)

Sunday, 12 November '23   2pm – 3:30pm GMT
Blackhorse Road, London, E17
5 spaces available

Details

Learn the art of Darbuka and bendir (frame drum lap style) playing in a fun and clear way.

You will:

  • Learn basic/traditional strokes and other techniques (e.g. split hand)
  • Traditional even and odd rhythms in 4/4, 2/2, 5/8 and 7/8 time signatures and their musical context
  • Develop rhythmical skills with body percussion and vocalisations
  • Have the opportunity to learn simple mini compositions to practice at home and do mini solos with others in the workshop
  • Have fun!

Darbuka will be from 2 to 3:30PM and Bendir from 3:45 to 5:15PM

Both workshops will be on the 12th November and 10th December. You can choose to do just one instrument or both.

PRICE FEE IS FOR ONE WORKSHOP/INSTRUMENT PER DAY

I would recommend having your own instrument as you will need to practice at home, and besides, you are here because you want to play that drum, so have one of your own! :) In case you can't bring it I will have a few spare, but check with me first please.

There are plenty of options on internet to b uy reasonably priced instruments. REMO for bender, size 16 inch his good for beginners. For Darbuka maybe a Meinl or Gear For Music have aluminium ones from around £80 (not with flat head and screws outside please, buy the one with smooth curved rim!)
