Details

Join me, Fiona, for a 7 week block of watercolour painting where you will build up skills week by week to create a black pen and watercolour painting of Circus Lane in Edinburgh. With a focus on enjoying the process, the small wins and the wellbeing benefits of art, you will be supported step by step each week. This course is open to adults and young people aged 16+ who are keen to develop their skills.

With 18 years of teaching experience and a rich background in watercolour painting, I am excited to share with you my knowledge and skills to help you build your confidence in drawing and watercolour painting.

This is our planned focus for each week:

5th November: Drawing a street in perspective

12th November: Focus on the church at the end of Circus lane- drawing and painting

19th November: Drawing and painting plants, bushes and flowers like what we see in our scene

26th November: Drawing and painting brickwork, decorative lamps and skies

3rd December, 10th December, 17th December: Drawing and painting our final piece.

You will receive all the main materials required delivered to your door: Daniel Smiths professional watercolours, Arches paper for your final painting, Windsor and Newton watercolour paper for practise pieces, brushes, mechanical pencil, rubber and black pen with archival ink (if you require them).

Any missed sessions can be recorded if you are not able to attend. Participants names won't feature in recordings and faces will also not be recorded.

Instructions

You will need a Zoom account to participate and I will send weekly emails with how to join each session.

The great thing about online sessions is you can roll up in your pjs, get a tasty snack and drink and just join in from the comfort of your home! Have your pack of materials to hand and this is what you'll need to have ready from home:

  • A cup of water for brushes
  • A piece of paper towel
  • A mixing tray for paint and if you don't have this, an old plate or plastic/ silicone mat works well
  • Loose paper/ sketchbook for rough sketches. This does not have to be high quality- it is just for practise thumbnails and sketching out thoughts.
