Lane End in the two world wars, plus the old village industries, and water supply problems. (2501)

Car park, Lane End, Lane End, High Wycombe, HP14 3ER
Fully booked

Details

We remember the men from Lane End who did not come back from the two world wars. Also places where the wars came to this village - some sad, some narrow escapes, and King Zog’s favourite wartime dance venue. We also consider the water supply problems and geology high in the chalk Chilterns; just how many drinking ponds did Lane End have ? There were also some heavy industries, one family firm is still going strong after at least 200 years. Most of the walk is through the village but includes a 30m (100 feet) climb up through Widdenton Park Wood.

Centre of Lane End. Start and finish at the car park off the B482 Finings Road. It doesn't have any traffic sign but turn off beside the traffic lights and past the white house. Go past the car parking spaces for the doctors, then there are about 40 public spaces where we will meet.
If full, there is some off-road parking on the other side of the road, opposite the white house. Follow this track towards the church.
