START LOCATION – Outside “Natural Wonders” Fossil Shop, Grape Lane, Whitby, YO22 4BA

Parking - Give plenty of time for parking in Whitby, and allow 15 mins for walking to the starting point

Starting from Whitby’s famous Fossil Shop, in the heart of the picturesque seaside town of Whitby, North Yorkshire, the tour is a must for every fossil enthusiast.

Join The Rock Showman on a time-travelling experience that takes you back nearly 200 million years through humanity, pre-history and deep time. Venture through the town of Whitby as a Victorian, view the Abbey in the time of Viking Raids and Anglo Saxons, and march past the Roman era to when iron and jet were collected and traded across the British Isles.

As we walk along the Cleveland Way towards Saltwick Bay, each step takes us even further back in time - beyond the Ice Age and ultimately into the Jurassic. Steve reveals stories of the landscape underfoot to uncover the environment of the deep past, whilst pointing out fossils and geological features along the way. You will see dinosaur footprints and fossils of Jurassic Sea Creatures, whilst learning how to find and identify these ancient rarities. Steve will also help you understand the local gemstone - Whitby Jet, and on a good day - maybe even find some upon the shore line.

This >3 hour tour combines academic knowledge with the message of responsible collection within Whitby's North York Moor National Park’ ‘Outdoor Museum’ - a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest for its Fossils and Geological Heritage.

Book early - This tour will sell out!
