Detaljer

Foundation Safety and Rescue Training provides you with the safety and rescue skills required to apply for a Scout Association permit to lead paddlesports on sheltered water (B1 waters).

The training is suitable for Explorer Scouts and adults. As a pre-requisite, you need to be able to paddle forward confidently and manoeuvre a kayak and canoe into position (including sideways) to perform a rescue. SUPs are like flat canoes so don't worry if you haven't much experience in paddling them- you'll get a chance to have a go.

The day is mostly practical, and you'll be expected to take full part in the sessions. You will paddle kayaks, canoes and SUPs during the day. The first hour will look at the theory aspects of safety and rescue before moving on to bank-based rescues and then towing different craft from different types of craft. We usually practise emptying boats before lunch. After lunch we'll be on and in the water, practising rescuing ourselves and others, using the full range of craft.

We'll have canoes, kayaks and SUPs, paddles and buoyancy aids you can use, but please do bring your own craft if you have one. You will need to bring your usual personal paddling kit/clothing with you. More details will be sent in the 10 days prior to the training.
