Wednesday Night Youth Training 2026

Oppy Beginners
This is for our youngest sailors to start there journeys. Children must be in Year 3 or above to sign up.
We will be working on the RYA Stage 1 & 2 syllabus. Children may need to do Oppy Beginners for two years but this will be discussed with you if needed.
Boat Hire is available, please select ticket which includes Boat Hire.

Beginners Fleet
This is a beginners group aimed at those children in Year 5 and above who are looking to start there sailing adventures.
We will be working towards RYA Stage 1 and Stage 2.
Boat Hire is available, please select ticket which includes Boat Hire.

Stage 3 - Single Handed
A mixed boat group for those who wish to continue learning how to sail after completed RYA Stage 1 & 2. We would recommend this course be done in an Oppy or Topper.
The course is really aimed at those who now wish to continue sailing single handed boats.
Working towards RYA Stage 3 syllabus.
Must provide own boat,

Stage 3 & 4, Double Handers
For those that have completed Stage 2, and wish to continue sailing but in a double handed boat. We would recommended a Mirror for this group, and would suggest that you already have a sailing partner lined up.
Working towards RYA Stage 3 and 4 (Stage 4: Double Handers Only)
Must provide own boat,

Seamanship Skills
After completing RYA Stage 1, 2 & 3. The next step is to look at the safety of sailing and what to do in those difficult conditions and the beginning of advance sailing skills.
Looking to complete the RYA Seamanship Course.
Boats shall be provided for this course, children will be 2 or 3 up in a Hartley 15.
BOATS DO NOT need to be hired in addition to course cost.

Sailing with Spinnakers
After completing RYA Stage 1, 2 & 3 (and preferable stage 4 - Double handed sailing) another option for you is to learn how to sail a boat with a Spinnaker.
Looking to complete the RYA Sailing with Spinnakers Course.
Boats shall be provided for this course, and children paired up in Fusions.
BOATS DO NOT need to be hired in addition to course cost.

Start Race
For those that have done it all, or simple want to start immersing themselves into the world of racing this is the course for you. We ask that you have a minimum of RYA Stage 1-3 and preferable completed Seamanship Skills before doing this course.
Working on RYA Start Race qualification
Must provide own boat and we would recommend and Topper

420 Double Handed Sailing & Racing
This is for those who have completed RYA Stage 1-3, Seamanship Skills & Start Race.
It will focus on How to sail a 420, included how to Rig the boat correctly, Fly a Spinnaker and Race a Double Handed Boat.
Boats shall be provided for this course, and DO NOT need to be hired in addition to the course cost. (If you have your own 420 and would like this course please contact AJ)

Multi-Hull Sailing & Racing
Multi hull sailing in our Hobie's is where the sailors will work towards there Stage 3 & 4 and Start Race in Multi-hulls.
Children must be in Year 6 or above and have already completed Stage 1-3, Seamanship Skills and Start Race.
Boats shall be provided for this course, and DO NOT need to be hired in addition to course cost.

Assistant Instructor Programme
For those who want to become future instructors, we have your back. At Poole YC we are very lucky to have an abundance of incredible instructors who are all keen to teach and guide the next generation.
During the season you will work alongside the instructing team gaining experience and the pre-course requisites that you need to become a qualified DI.
Please Note: You will need to pay for these pre-course requisites on a individual basis.
