OWLs (Outdoors Without LimitS) is our Forest School drop off session for home educated children. OWLs is aimed at children aged 6 - 11yrs.
Our ethos is very much one of child-led learning so there is no pressure to do any of the many activities offered each week: children are free to follow their own learning. The sessions are led by at least two experienced Forest School Leaders, with Forest School assistants who adapt their approach to facilitate each child's learning. We operate vey high ratios of staff:attendees. Children take part in lots of different woodland activities including fire lighting and campfire cooking, woodcraft and natural art, den building, tree climbing, outdoor games, rope swings and hammocks. Forest school encourages physical and emotional development and has been shown to build confidence, self esteem, social and emotional skills and a love of nature.
Our forest school runs all year around. Sessions are run by Level 3 qualified forest school leaders with outdoor first aid, food hygiene and enhanced DBS checks. Chichester Forest Schools CIC is a non-profit community organisation and are Recognised Providers of long term forest school programmes endorsed by the Forest School Association. www.fsa.org.uk
In the case of severe high winds the sessions may be moved to Lavant House indoor space and outdoor space away from any trees.
Please come dressed for the weather, long trousers and long sleeves are recommended and enclosed shoes to protect from prickles and, as deer frequent the garden when we are not there, there is a risk of ticks in longer grass.
Although we will always offer some kind of snack (usually) cooked over the fire, please bring your own drinks and snacks as well.
