Handbuilding for Beginners

If you are looking to dive into the joy of handbuilding, then this course is for you. It's an ideal opportunity to get to know clay and be equipped with basic handbuilding skills, before commiting to a full term of weekly classes. Perhaps you have been to one of our half day workshops and are keen to take the next step.

Over these six sessions you will learn to create your own work using the pinching, coiling and slab-building methods. In addition, your course tutors will demonstrate a range of decoration and surface texture techniques to try out.

The Beginners Handbuilding Course is open to all adults (18+) and runs on consecutive Tuesday for 3 hours each session.

This course runs alongside a weekly class with more experienced potters. There is an optional opportunity to continue after half term if you want to move onto throwing on the wheel, and to develop your skills further.

Course cost includes instruction and refreshments. In addition any finished pieces you make which will be weighed and charged a small fee per 100g to cover the cost of materials and firing.
