'Create and Connect Friday Crafternoons' aims to provide a safe, relaxing space for young people to unwind, express themselves and explore their creativity. Through a variety of craft projects, from art and DIY to hands-on creations, this group focuses not only on building skills but also on nurturing mental and emotional wellbeing. Each session includes mindfulness practices and stress-relief techniques to help teens manage their emotions, relax after a busy day, and connect with others in a real-life, supportive, creative environment free of technology. It’s more than just crafting—it’s about finding peace, boosting confidence, and enjoying the process of creation.
I'm Fiona, your group facilitator. I've been a Primary Teacher for the last 16 years, most recently Support for Learning, where my passion for supporting wellbeing in creative ways was really sparked. I saw the need for young people to have a space to express themselves, whilst feeling safe and comfortable to be who they are.
This group will have a maximum 10 young people in it to allow for lots of 1:1 support and guidance, as well as keeping a calm and relaxed atmosphere.
I have a wealth of experience in supporting a range of individual needs. Please let me know if there is anything specific I can do to support your child prior to the group starting.
After the free trial, sessions are £13.50 per session in 8 week blocks.
Your young person should wear comfortable clothing and footwear that they don't mind potentially getting a little bit messy.
Water and a healthy snack will be provided. However, if your child prefers to bring their own (nut free) snack they are welcome to.
All materials will be provided so no need to bring anything unless your young person has materials at home that they particularly like using.
Behaviour policy. I will send more information on this after booking. However, please be aware that groups are a phone free zone. Please ensure your teen is aware of this. This is very important from the perspective of safety, privacy of others and also to allow them to build their own confidence in their creative abilities. Often, we look to technology to solve problems for us, think of ideas for us etc (which has its benefits of course). In some sessions, I will provide printed images of ideas to inspire but more often I will ask the young people to try to think of their own unique ideas that they can feel proud of creating. They can bring their phone with them but it must be switched off and in a pocket/bag. I will ensure I have parental contact details in case of an emergency.
