The Whole Routine is a musical performance about control and longing by Edward Thomasson, created in collaboration with songwriter Robbie Ellen and composer Charlotte Harding, and performers Adrian Quinton, Andrew Kerton, Clara Andersson, Penelope Granycome, Simon Tipping, and Yasmine Holness-Dove. The piece returns to London Performance Studios where it premiered in April 2025. This presentation of the work is part of a UK wide tour throughout 2026.
Developed over three years through weekend workshops and public presentations, this ambitious work uses song and dance sequences to explore how patterns of behaviour develop to manage difficult social feelings. The ensemble brings a range of experiences to the work: some have formal training; others sing in community choirs or perform in more informal settings. Each performer finds their own distinct way through the sequences. As harmonies falter, gestures fall flat, and routines slip out of time, The Whole Routine describes attempts at breaking the numb repetitions of conventional interaction and the sometimes-alarming awkwardness of trying to feel things differently.
