Details

Karen Horrocks will be facilitating a cook-along session as a special South Yorkshire Women Inspired evening session for International Women’s Day.
Join Karen for a relaxed, friendly cook along where she’ll show you how to make a versatile base “magic sauce” that can transform into a range of tasty, healthy meals — from ragu to chilli to curry.

During the session, you’ll:
• Make a big batch of the magic sauce
• Set aside portions for another day (perfect for quick, stress free midweek meals)
• Create a delicious Pasta alla Norma–style dish to enjoy straight away
We’ll also chat about how simple food prep can support you to save time, reduce stress, and make it easier to eat well even on busy days.
Karen Horrocks is the Healthy Places Lead for the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities (OHID) in Yorkshire and the Humber. A registered Public Health Practitioner, Karen’s role focuses on creating healthier, fairer places where people can live and thrive.

Karen began her career in Doncaster as a Community Food Educator, delivering “Cook and Eat” courses to local groups, where she taught practical skills around food and cooking. Since then, she has held a variety of roles centred on food and community, including contributing to the development of Doncaster’s Compassionate Approach to Weight.

Passionate about cooking, Karen has authored two community cookbooks and even appeared on the BBC show Instant Restaurant. She firmly believes that everyone has the right to access the food they need to live happy and healthy lives. Today, she works to transform the food environment—making it more equitable and inclusive, while challenging stigma and judgement around body size.

This event is part of a series of flexible, virtual sessions taking place on 9th March hosted by the South Yorkshire Women Inspired Network to mark International Women’s Day 2026, which is centred around fostering collaboration, reciprocity and support for women.
