Who are the Humanities Teaching Seminars for?
These seminars are for DPhils and postdocs who have completed their faculty PLTO, who are embarking on undergraduate teaching at Oxford for the first time, and who wish to put together a teaching portfolio accreditation for a nationally-recognised teaching qualification.

When should you attend?
Teaching Seminars are aimed at helping you get the most out of your first experiences of teaching at Oxford and should be attended during the term in which you are undertaking some teaching. If you have not yet secured undergraduate teaching for Hilary Term then you should wait and apply to attend the Teaching Seminars at a later date. Please find attached the handbook for more information.

Please note that you will have to submit a portfolio within three terms of your completion of the seminars. If you do not submit by this last available deadline, you will no longer eligible to submit a portfolio.

If you have teaching secured for Hilary term and would like to attend the teaching seminars, please complete the registration form here. Please register by Friday 8th December and the notification will be sent by Friday 15th December.

The seminars are as follows:
Week 1 : Introduction to Developing Learning and Teaching
Week 2: Lesson design
Week 3: Evaluating your teaching
Week 4 (Week 5 for Thursday group): Feedback to students
Week 6: The role of the teacher
Week 8: Portfolio review

Please ensure that you will be able to commit to the following dates and times: Wednesdays(9:30am-11:00am)in weeks 1,2,3,4,6,8 or Thursdays(9:30am-11:00am) in weeks 1,2,3,5,6,8. It is really important that you are able to commit to the whole term’s seminar programme. Seminars are frequently over-subscribed and so those who register for Hilary Term’s seminars will not be permitted to attend seminars in subsequent terms.
You will be expected to undertake some reading and preparation in advance of each seminar, which should take no more than four hours, and often considerably less.
