Trans Allyship for Managers

This is a series of 120-minute interactive workshops for people in supervisory and/or hiring positions who want to create inclusive workplaces for trans, nonbinary, gender nonconforming, two spirit, and all gender expansive people. Trans+ people are at a critical moment in the US and we need everyone to begin standing up and affirming our right to exist in public. The workplace is a key site of discrimination and harassment for trans folks, which means that an affirming and proactive workplace can also be a place for social change. This is an open space designed for learning, where everyone will have a chance to ask questions, own our feelings, and make mistakes.

In the first workshop, we will learn about contemporary threats to transgender existence in the US and relate it explicitly to workplace policies. In this highly interactive workshop, participants will have the chance to critically examine their own workplaces and behaviors and identify opportunities for change.

In the second workshop, we will discuss the potential for backlash against trans-affirming policies. We will workshop challenges to implementation and especially how to respond to external attacks demanding a worksite rescind protections for trans people.

Participants will leave the workshop feeling confident about proactive changes that they can make to reduce barriers to employment for trans+ people. The goal of this series is for participants to become hopeful and active allies and co-conspirators.
