How can the teacher and SENDCO work together to support children working below ARE?

This project is available for members of SLT, maths leads, SECDCOs, ECTS and class teachers working within primary mainstream schools. It is designed to develop a toolkit of strategies for supporting children. We shall be exploring how the teacher and the SENDCO can work effectively together to support pupils who are working at below ARE (age related expectations), so they can access whole class teaching and learning in line with teaching for mastery. These children are often referred to as ‘the lowest 20%’. Supporting children working below ARE will also encompass strategies for working with children with SEND who have a particular weakness in maths. The Work Group will use local expertise from SEND external agencies to give participants strategies for effectively teaching children with identified needs.
