Datos

Lead walking is one of those things that looks like it should be so easy and yet many owners really struggle with. A dog that pulls on the lead can make walks a miserable, even painful experience. Walks become shorter and start to impact the welfare of the dog and can lead onto other behaviour issues.

These classes are for you if you have a youngster who is just starting out lead walking or for your dog if they pull on lead. We will not be tackling reactivity, if that is the reason for pulling on lead.

We will cover:
Different equipment and walking modes eg working and leisure modes
Starting as you mean to go on: calmly getting their equipment on then leaving the building.
Teaching the dog where we want them to be.
Teaching the dog how to take any pressure off the lead.
Adding distance
Adding distractions
Changing sides
Avoiding hazards
We will be putting all the bits together and hopefully if the weather is good we will get out and about in the village.

All of the training is reward based using food or toys.

IMPORTANT:
Please contact me if your dog is reactive towards people or other dogs so that we can discuss how we can accommodate their needs.

If you are unsure if these classes are the right fit for you, please feel free to message me for more information and to discuss you and your dog's needs.

Instrucciones

YOU WILL NEED:
A DOG ON A FLAT COLLAR OR HARNESS AND 2 LEADS
A 6ft flat lead or training lead is best. The second lead is purely for safety whilst clipping the lead on and off. Please don't bring choke chains, half chokes or extendable leads.

LOTS AND LOTS OF FOOD REWARDS OR TREATS
way more than you think you will need. They should be small, soft and easy to chew. You might want to reduce your dog's meals on class days. It is also a good idea not to feed your dog immediately before class so that they are more likely to take the treats. Try a variety of things to find out what floats your dog's boat. Where there are few distractions you might find that using the dog's normal meal ration will work but in tougher places, such as in class, you will get better engagement with higher value treats such as sausage, cheese, hot dogs, chicken or other meats. Some dogs even love to work for fruit and veg such as apples, carrots or cabbage but not most dogs.
TIP: those little bags of 'training treats' you can buy usually are not that exciting for dogs.
Treats should be fairly small, about the size of your pinkie nail and easily chewed. Large, hard to chew treats will slow your delivery down and with training its about getting in as many successful repetitions as possible.

TREAT POUCH
if you have one but you can get by without one. Treats should be easily accessible without too much fumbling so that delivery can be speedy. Loose in a pocket will work better than putting them in a plastic bag.

I have a few treat pouches and leads in stock. If you would like to buy one let me know. You will find them at the top of my FB page https://www.facebook.com/adogslifecoaching/posts/628143597903168

TOYS:
that you can interact with your dog such as a ball on a rope or a tug toy. Even a rolled up tea towel can make an exciting toy. No squeakies please, all hell will break loose with the other pups.
Tug-e-Nuff do some cracking toys that are ideal for training and if you use the code ADOGSLIFECOACHING at check out you'll get 10% discount

DOGBED
We will be using this to give your dog somewhere comfy to chill. A simple mat or folded towel would do

You may also want to bring a water dish and water and poop bags.
