Dresden Plates! - Ages 17 and up - For Strong Beginners

Let’s make Dresden Plates! This eye-catching yet beginner-friendly quilt block is a great way to use up your fabric scraps and add a touch of vintage charm to any project. In this class, Sarah will guide you step-by-step as you create a full Dresden Plate—from stitching together the pointed "fan blades" to appliquéing the finished circle onto a pieced background—all by machine (no hand sewing required!). Once your plate is complete, you’ll be ready to take it home and turn it into something fabulous. Some fun project ideas include a mini wall quilt, a quilted pillow, a tote bag, or even a cozy quilted sweatshirt. The possibilities are endless!

Supply List:

• At least (16) 9" x 5" scraps for the fans
• (4) 12" x 12" squares for the background
• (1) 5" x 5" scrap with motif for fussy cutting (motif should be 4" or smaller)
• Thread for piecing
• Thread for applique (this will be seen! It can be neutral to blend with the fabric, or something that stands out)
• Glue stick
• Straight pins
• Small scissors
• Seam ripper
• Rotary cutter, mat, ruler

Optional Supplies, if you want to start on a mini wall quilt:

• (1) 26" x 26" piece of batting
• (1) 27" x 27" piece of backing
• (1) 1/4 yd binding fabric
• Thread for quilting
• Walking foot with guide
• Marking tool (erasable fabric pen, hera marker, etc)
• Basting spray or pins

Instructor: Sarah has been quilting for 15 years, and has been longarming for clients all over the US since 2020. She loves cheerful designs, whimsical fabrics, and all the colors! Sarah's quilting work has been published in books and magazines, and she has released 3 original quilt patterns. Quilting is one of her favorite things, and she loves helping others have as much fun with it as she does! Sarah lives in Austin with her husband, son, and sewing helper cat.

o This class has a 3 person minimum. Class may be cancelled if minimum is not met 48 hours prior to class.
o Beehive Craft Studio reserves the right to cancel a class at any time.
If we do so, you'll be issued a full refund.
o Inclement Weather Policy: We reserve the right to cancel class if we deem that weather would make traveling to class dangerous. Every attempt will be made to schedule a makeup for the missed class.
