James Eogan
An archaeologist and sauna lover, James worked alongside the excavation team that uncovered a 3000-year-old Bronze Age sweat lodge, in Rathpatrick, county Kilkenny.

Sean Fitzgerald
An artist and author inspired by Irish folklore and mythology. Sean built a sweathouse in county Donegal, and is one of the few people in Ireland right now who has experience in both lighting a sweathouse and feeling the heat inside.

Rosanna Cooney
Journalist and author of the upcoming book Sweathouse; The new and ancient Irish Sauna tradition, Rosanna has researched the different eras of Irish history when sweat-bathing has had a central role in society and was a vital part of the community’s health.

Candlelit Tales
Candlelit tales bring Irish folklore to life. They are storytellers who don’t shy away from the sex, violence and sweat of our epic tales, but bring fresh eyes and voices to the story of sauna in Ireland over the ages.

Time doors open 6.30pm Location: Fumbally Stables Journey into the ancient Irish tradition of sweat-bathing from the 3000-year-old sweat lodges discovered by archeologists in Meath, Kilkenny and Cork, to the mysterious stone sweathouses that still hold the secrets of our past and the forgotten history of the many Turkish Baths in Ireland. Enjoy a bite to eat from the chefs at Fumbally Stables before listening to the wonderful Candlelit Tales dive deep into Irish mythology to tell the forgotten stories of our warrior heroes who were sweating, and bathing devotees. Expect to come away from this evening with a new and deep knowledge of the new and ancient sauna traditions.
