Datos

Explore a range of professional stone setting techniques on this advanced jewellery course, guided by your own design goals and working practice.

Take your setting skills to the next level with our Advanced Stone Setting Course. Designed for jewellers who already have a solid foundation in setting – such as tube or rub-over – this term-time course introduces you to a broader range of techniques, including flush, basket, channel, pavé, tube, claw, and more.

The direction of the course is shaped in part by you. At the start of term, we’ll discuss your goals and the kinds of work you want to make, then focus on the settings most relevant to your practice. Under expert guidance, you’ll develop confidence in designing, constructing and finishing complex settings with professional precision.

What settings will I learn?

This advanced stone setting course is built around a series of focused projects, each chosen to deepen your understanding of precision setting techniques. Projects are agreed at the start of term based on student goals and may draw from settings including:

  • Flush setting – a clean, minimalist technique where stones sit level with the metal surface.
  • Basket setting – an open framework that maximises light through the stone
  • Channel setting – a sleek, modern approach for securing rows of stones between parallel walls.
  • Pavé setting – closely spaced stones held by small raised beads for a continuous sparkle effect
  • Tube setting – a versatile and refined method using pre-formed tubing as the setting wall
  • Claw setting – prong-based settings for round and fancy-cut stones, balancing elegance and security Not all techniques will be covered in every course – the focus is on what’s most useful and relevant for each group.
