Family Foraging: Forage, Folklore and Feast Over the Fire
A hands-on workshop for the whole family!
Come and discover the incredible plants growing all around us—and learn how our ancestors used them for food, medicine and everyday life.
Together, we’ll explore the plants growing here at Acorn Adventures, uncover the traditional stories and folklore that helped generations remember their uses, and rediscover the medicine cabinet growing right beneath our feet.
Expect plenty of opportunities to taste, smell, explore and play with nature, before coming together around the campfire to enjoy delicious foraged treats and refreshing, cosy campfire drinks.
A relaxed, hands-on afternoon of wild food, traditional knowledge, nature connection and quality family time outdoors. Come curious, get your hands dirty and learn something new together!
DATE: Sunday 20th September
TIME: 1pm–3.30pm
VENUE: The Little Acorns Wood & Meadow, Auchincruive and the wider Auchincruive woodlands
Accessibility: The site includes some uneven and woodland terrain and is not wheelchair accessible. An off-road buggy should be suitable.
Family attendance: We encourage parents and carers to join their children so you can enjoy the experience and connection time together. Children aged 11+ may attend independently and be left in our care. We’re unable to provide 1:1 supervision, so if your child or young person requires individual support, a parent/carer will need to accompany them.
WHAT WILL I NEED TO BRING / WEAR?
Please wear suitable outdoor clothing for the weather. Sturdy, waterproof footwear is recommended.
WEATHER
Our holistic learning approach is all about enjoying the outdoors in all weathers! We have plenty of shelters and a cosy yurt to help keep everyone comfortable.
If high winds make the session unsafe, we will cancel and aim to reschedule wherever possible. If we are unable to reschedule, we will offer a refund minus a 10% administration fee. Cancellations due to weather are very rare.
POLICIES
We are happy to explain and show you our policies. Many of them are also available on our website under ‘Policies’ for parents and carers to view.
