6 sessions | Complete beginners | Maximum 4 dogs

If you’d love to discover what your dog can really do with their nose, this is where to start.

Scentwork Block 1 is designed for complete beginners and teaches you and your dog the foundations needed to progress through my scentwork programme.

Across six sessions, your dog will learn to search for and recognise specific scents, including Kong and gun oil. We’ll gradually build their searching skills, teach them to work independently and methodically, find the source of an odour and begin to develop a clear indication.

You don’t need any previous scentwork experience and your dog doesn’t need lots of training under their belt. We start right at the beginning and build the skills step by step.

With only four dogs per class, there’s plenty of individual help and exercises can be adapted to suit each dog.

Six sessions, with time to practise

Your six sessions don't necessarily take place over six consecutive weeks.

At the beginning of the course, the group will agree the dates for all six sessions. They will remain on the same day and at the same time, but we can include gaps for holidays and useful practice weeks between sessions.

This means Block 1 may run over more than six weeks, giving you time to practise at home and consolidate each stage before moving on.

Where can Scentwork take you?

Block 1 is just the beginning.

Block 1 – Foundations
Learn the core scentwork skills and introduce your dog to Kong and gun oil.

Block 2 – Developing Your Skills
Build on those foundations with more challenging searches and develop you and your dog into a stronger scentwork team.

Nosework Games
Once you have the skills in place, you can move into ongoing Nosework Games sessions, with new searches, challenges and plenty of opportunities to keep progressing.

Want to compete?
For those who catch the scentwork bug, there is also the opportunity to work towards taking part in National Nosework Association events and competitions.

Competition is completely optional. You might want to see how far you and your dog can go, or you might simply discover a brilliant new activity that you both love doing together.
