Somatics is a gentle mat-based practice, a bit like yoga or pilates, but with more focus on helping the brain understand and release pain and tension from our bodies. It’s sometimes called neuromuscular re-education. Our brain controls our movement so in class we improve our awareness of our own patterns of tension, and through a variety of gentle movements we learn how to let that go. It’s fantastic for reducing pain and improving quality of movement in daily life.
Beginners very welcome! I can send you an introductory video before beginning classes.
Choose a place to practice where I can see you on your mat, somewhere warm and welcoming where you won't be disturbed. Ideally have your mat set up horizontally to your device. A carpet or rug is also idea for Somatics and in many ways more freeing. You may wish to play around with this beforehand! Have cushion handy for side-lying work. The session will open 5mins before the start to arrive and say hello and I am available after class for questions and feedback.
A recording will be available after class for those who wish to repeat during the week or if you are unable to make the session. This will be available for 7 days. If only doing the recorded class please understand that this is at your own risk, listen to your body and adapt the movements for your needs.
