Step into the world of batik, one of Sri Lanka’s most cherished art forms, and create your own custom-designed batik piece under the guidance of Master Artisan Miss Irangani.

With over 40 years of experience, Miss Irangani is a pioneer in Sri Lankan batik-making. Today, she shares her passion by training new generations of artists and welcoming visitors into her workshop to experience the magic of batik firsthand.

Whether you're a beginner or an art enthusiast, this hands-on workshop will immerse you in the intricate techniques of wax-resist dyeing.

💫 What You'll Learn:

  • Learn the history of batik in Sri Lanka
  • Experience the full batik-making process
  • Take home your handmade batik piece

PLEASE NOTE:

Due to the time required for the authentic batik process and to ensure fairness to our artisans' time, the entire group will work with a single color for this session. The color will be chosen based on a majority vote from the group.

Reviews from attendees -

"If I’m totally honest, the Batik making workshop was a main highlight of my month long trip to Sri Lanka. Not only did I enjoy the slow, meditative and deeply sensory process; first sketching and then waxing the fabric, but I also really loved how it weaved together craftsmanship, cultural symbolism and creativity too. I felt very connected to Sri Lanka and its roots that day, the whole experience of it was very special and it’s nice I have something to keep as a memoir from this special trip. All of this combined with supporting a local family of artisans that keep this art form alive, meant everything to me. The sarong fabric was a challenge to fill as someone who had never done anything like that before, but as it was only me and one other person, Irmani was able to offer her help and assist with the design. I love the sarong and will make use of it but I think the smaller bandana size would have been perfect too. It would have meant you could work at a slower pace and take more time over it" - Kirsty
