Weekly on a Saturday morning throughout the winter at the Lakeside Country Park, Eastleigh. There are four session times to choose from - 9.15, 9.45, 10.30 and 11.00 so plenty of time to go to Parkrun beforehand or have a lie in.
These sessions are for both seasoned winter dippers and those curious to try it out for the first time. Kirsty will be there to guide you through the process, to encourage you and cheer you on. Cold water has its risks and it is important to arrive prepared, enter the water gently, acclimatise slowly and be kind to your body, there is no obligation to stay in the water any longer than you feel is right for you. Ice is a possibility but not guaranteed!
Enjoy the changing rooms, a covered area to chat afterwards and usually cake!
The park is easily accessed by public transport and Southampton Airport Parkway train station is a 10 minute walk away. If you arrive by car, parking is free.
Walk to the far end of the car park and between the 2 buildings, the changing rooms are on the right under the covered roof. To access the lake go past the noticeboard and follow the path to top end of the lake on the right.
You will need a swimming costume or trunks, swim shoes to protect your feet and a tow float for visibility. Don't worry if you don't have a tow float, I can lend you one. Extras for in the water may include a swim hat or bobble hat, wetsuit, neoprene boots and gloves. You will also want to pack a towel, warm layers, a hat and gloves, hot drink and snack. The lake is a short walk from the changing rooms where you can leave your belongings safely. A coat or robe is a good idea as a cover up to keep you warm between the changing rooms and the lake.
After a short briefing you are free to swim/dip for as long or short a time that suits you. Please remember to swim your swim, it is about enjoying the beautiful lake, listening to your body and finishing strong.
