An introduction to Place-names of Fields, Woods & Settlements
Monday, 25 September 2023 - 14.00-16.00
This afternoon session will give a brief introduction to the origins of Place-names, their elements and how these derived from different languages. It will look at how these names describe a landscape of fields, woods, rivers and settlements which now no longer exist, taking local examples including that of the area of Graves Park as a starting point. The session will include a couple of practical exercises using old maps.
