Weave Willow Birdfeeders in the Walled Garden Sunday 17th January 2027

Datos

Come and spend a lovely day in the Walled Garden working with natural willow, learning the traditional craft of willow weaving and making something beautiful and useful for your own garden. 🌿

Willow bird feeders are a simple, natural and eco-friendly addition to the garden, designed specifically to hold fat balls, suet pellets, nuts and seeds and provide a helping hand to garden birds during the colder months. Made from natural home grown willow, each feeder has its own character, with the natural variations in the material adding to its charm.🦅

Our local willow artist Heather McDermott, will guide you through the weaving process step by step. No previous experience is needed, and you’ll be able to work at your own pace while learning some traditional willow-weaving techniques.

We’ll also talk about responsible bird feeding, including choosing suitable fat balls, where to position your feeder and the importance of keeping feeders clean to help reduce the spread of disease.

Weather permitting, we’ll take a little time to explore our Salley Garden, where you can see how willow is grown, harvested and prepared for weaving. It’s lovely to see the journey from living plant to the natural material you’ll be working with.

By the end of the day, you’ll have two handmade feeders to take home and hang in your garden, where the willow will weather naturally and add a little rustic character among the trees and plants. 🌿
