10–19 October 2027
There are some parts of Europe that are wonderful to visit, and there are others that seem almost purpose-built for a WWOW tour. Northern Spain falls very firmly into the second category.

Here, spectacular mountain roads meet elegant historic cities, beautiful hotels, outstanding food, vineyards, Atlantic beaches and a wonderfully relaxed approach to life.
For October 2027, we are heading south from Santander into the heart of Northern Spain, travelling from the historic grandeur of León through the vineyards and mountains of La Rioja before finishing beside the Atlantic in sophisticated San Sebastián.

Seven nights in Spain, three very different and memorable destinations, exceptional mountain roads, vineyards, historic cities, Atlantic scenery, outstanding food and the opportunity to enjoy it all together.

The driving will, of course, be a major part of the experience, but it is only one part. Our aim is to create the kind of holiday where the road you have just driven is remembered alongside the hotel you arrived at, the lunch you enjoyed, the bottle of Rioja you shared and the evening spent talking about the day's adventures.

This is Northern Spain, the WWOW way.

(£1,490pp based on two sharing a Twin or Double Room) Single Supplement is £2,680

THE WWOW APPROACH
Our days are planned around the quality of the experience. Around five hours of driving gives us plenty of time to enjoy the roads without turning the journey into an endurance event, while regular opportunities for coffee, lunch, photography and exploration mean that there is always time to appreciate where we are.
The same philosophy applies to our hotels. If we are going to stay somewhere special, we want you to have enough time to enjoy it. A beautiful room, a relaxing spa, a drink on the terrace, a leisurely breakfast or an excellent dinner should be part of the experience rather than something squeezed in around the driving.

Most importantly, this is a couples' holiday, as while the drivers have some exceptional roads to enjoy, our co-pilots and non-driving partners have equally good reasons to look forward to every destination, whether that means exploring a historic city, enjoying a long lunch, discovering the local food and wine or simply making the most of a beautiful hotel.

SUNDAY 10 OCTOBER
Plymouth to Santander
Our adventure begins with the 16:45 sailing from Plymouth to Santander. With the cars safely aboard and the Bay of Biscay ahead, the pace immediately becomes more relaxed, giving everyone the opportunity to settle into the holiday before we even reach Spain.
There is something rather enjoyable about beginning a European driving tour this way. The luggage is already packed, the route is taken care of and tomorrow morning we wake up with the mountains of Northern Spain waiting for us.

MONDAY 11 OCTOBER
Santander to León
Once ashore in Santander, we head inland towards León, leaving the Atlantic coastline behind as the landscape gradually becomes more mountainous. The roads begin to develop the character we have come to Spain to enjoy, with sweeping curves, changing elevations and increasingly dramatic scenery.

After our first proper day on Spanish roads, we arrive at the Parador de León, where we settle in for three nights.
LEÓN
Three nights at the magnificent Parador de León
The Parador de León is much more than a convenient base. This remarkable historic building provides an atmospheric and elegant introduction to Spain, combining magnificent architecture with the comfort and character expected from one of the country's great Paradores.
Three nights also give us the luxury of time. We can venture into the surrounding mountains without having to pack the luggage again the following morning, while those who would rather leave the driving to others can spend time discovering León, with its historic centre, beautiful architecture, cafés and restaurants.
It is a wonderfully civilised way to begin the tour, with the cars outside, the city on the doorstep and a beautiful hotel to return to each evening.

TUESDAY 12 OCTOBER
Exploring the Mountains around León
Today we begin exploring the roads around León properly. The surrounding countryside provides an excellent mixture of mountain scenery, flowing roads and quieter routes through villages and valleys, giving the cars plenty of opportunity to be enjoyed without the pressure of covering unnecessary miles.
The route will be about discovering the character of the region rather than simply ticking off a list of roads. There will be opportunities to stop for coffee, admire the scenery and take the inevitable photographs of beautifully polished cars sitting somewhere that makes them look even better.
For our non-driving partners, León offers an equally attractive alternative. The historic centre is ideal for exploring on foot, with architecture, cafés, restaurants and shops providing plenty to occupy a leisurely day, while the Parador itself offers a beautiful place to relax.

WEDNESDAY 13 OCTOBER
A Second Day in León
Having established ourselves in León, today gives us the freedom to explore further into the surrounding mountain country. With no need to move hotels, we can concentrate entirely on finding the most enjoyable roads and scenery in the area, creating a route that rewards the drivers without asking them to spend the entire day behind the wheel.
This is one of the advantages of the WWOW format. Rather than treating every day as a transfer between two hotels, we can spend two days getting to know a region properly, allowing the drivers to enjoy more of the roads while the rest of the party can choose how they want to spend their time.

For couples who prefer a slower day, León remains a wonderful destination in its own right, and there is something rather civilised about returning to the Parador in the afternoon with time for a drink, a little relaxation and a leisurely evening.

THURSDAY 14 OCTOBER
León to La Rioja and Logroño
Today the landscape changes considerably as we leave León and travel east towards La Rioja. The journey introduces another side of Northern Spain, with mountain scenery gradually giving way to the vineyards and rolling countryside surrounding one of the country's most celebrated wine regions.
Our destination is Logroño, the capital of La Rioja, where we will spend two nights at the AC Hotel La Rioja. After the grandeur and history of León, the hotel provides a comfortable contemporary base from which to explore the region.
And, naturally, being in Rioja gives us a very good reason to take the subject of wine rather seriously. Research is important on a WWOW tour!

LOGROÑO
Two nights in the heart of Rioja country
Logroño gives the tour another change of pace. The city is surrounded by vineyards and mountains and provides an excellent base for exploring the Cameros and Demanda areas, while its food and wine culture gives the non-driving partners plenty to enjoy.
The AC Hotel La Rioja provides a comfortable and stylish base after a day on the road, allowing us to enjoy the region without having to turn every day into another hotel transfer.

For couples, this is an opportunity to experience Rioja together. While the drivers head into the mountains, others can explore Logroño, enjoy a leisurely lunch or simply make the most of the pleasures that come with being in one of Spain's great wine regions.

FRIDAY 15 OCTOBER
Rioja and the Mountain Roads
Today provides one of the strongest driving opportunities of the tour, with the mountain areas around Cameros and Demanda offering a wonderful combination of winding roads, open landscapes and dramatic scenery. Depending on the final route, we can also explore towards the Picos de Urbión, creating a day that combines rewarding driving with some of the less familiar landscapes of Northern Spain.

The route will be designed around the WWOW principle of quality rather than quantity, allowing time for a proper lunch, scenic stops and the enjoyment of the landscape rather than simply measuring the day by the number of miles completed.
For non-driving partners, this is an excellent opportunity to experience Rioja at a completely different pace. Logroño offers food, wine, cafés and attractive streets, while the surrounding region provides vineyards, villages and opportunities to enjoy one of Spain's great culinary destinations.

SATURDAY 16 OCTOBER
Logroño to San Sebastián
Our journey continues north-west towards the Atlantic and the Basque Country. The landscape becomes increasingly green as we leave the vineyards behind, with mountain roads providing another enjoyable driving chapter before we reach San Sebastián.
The destination is particularly appropriate for the final part of the tour. San Sebastián combines an elegant coastal setting with outstanding food and a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere, while our hotel, Catalonia Donosti, gives us an excellent base for the final two nights.

SAN SEBASTIÁN
Two nights beside one of Europe's great food destinations
Catalonia Donosti gives us a very different experience from our first two hotels. Set in a former convent overlooking San Sebastián, it combines character with contemporary comfort and provides a particularly attractive place to finish the tour.
Its elevated position gives us views across the city, while the hotel's facilities provide somewhere to relax after several days on the road. More importantly, we are now perfectly placed to enjoy San Sebastián itself.

For the final two nights, the emphasis moves naturally from driving to enjoying the destination. Beautiful beaches, elegant streets, excellent restaurants and the city's celebrated food culture make this the perfect place to slow the pace down.

SUNDAY 17 OCTOBER
San Sebastián
Today belongs to San Sebastián.
There is no requirement to follow a route, no mountain pass to conquer and no particular destination to reach. Instead, the day is yours to enjoy as you wish, whether that means a leisurely breakfast, a walk along the waterfront, exploring the old town, shopping, discovering the city's famous food scene or simply enjoying the hotel. For the harder amongst us, the Pyrenees Mountains are less than 60 minutes away!

It is also an important part of the WWOW philosophy. A luxury tour should not feel as though every minute has been scheduled. Sometimes the best part of a holiday is having the freedom to decide what you want to do when you wake up.
After several days of driving, it is rather nice to know that the cars are perfectly happy to have a rest.

MONDAY 18 OCTOBER
San Sebastián to Santander and Home
Our final morning in Spain gives us time for a relaxed breakfast and one last opportunity to enjoy San Sebastián before we begin the journey back towards Santander.
There will still be plenty of beautiful scenery on the way and the 18:45 sailing from Santander to Plymouth allows us time great driving pre boarding

After a week of driving, exploring, eating and relaxing, the cars can finally take a well-earned rest below deck as our conversations turn to favourite roads, favourite hotels and favourite moments of the tour.

There is also a strong possibility that somebody will already be asking where WWOW is going next!

TUESDAY 19 OCTOBER
Plymouth
We arrive back in Plymouth at approximately 15:45, bringing Northern Spain & the Pyrenees 2027 to a close.
Seven nights in Spain, three very different and memorable destinations, exceptional mountain roads, vineyards, historic cities, Atlantic scenery, outstanding food and the opportunity to enjoy it all together.
The cars will have had their share of the adventure, but the real success of a WWOW tour is measured by something rather different: how much everyone enjoyed the whole experience.
That is why we choose the roads carefully, why we choose the hotels carefully and why we leave enough space in the itinerary to enjoy both.

Because the perfect WWOW tour is about where you drive, where you stay, what you experience, who you share it with and how you feel when you come home!
