Discover the joys of working with wire and create your very own 2D/3D wirework.
We’ll be using soft black iron wire which is wonderfully easy to work with using just pliers and your fingers and it holds its shape really well. During the workshop, you’ll learn how to join wires using the binding method and explore the different gauges of wire, and types of pliers, available.
All materials and tools will be supplied and there will be plenty of examples of the different kinds of wire work you can create. You might like to look to the natural world for inspiration – flowers, birds and animals all work wonderfully in wire.
No experience required.
Philippa Johnston is a wirework artist based in North East Fife who ‘draws’ with wire, creating pieces that sit somewhere between 2D and 3D. For one body of work, she created a 100-strong wire menagerie inspired by sketches done on location. Her work reflects her love of animals and birds and her fascination with folk and children’s art. She also works sculpturally with recycled tin and paper.
