During this workshop Kevin will introduces participants to the basics of printing onto ceramics using a variety of techniques including powder, paper, stencil, screen and mono printing.
Participants will go on to explore using decals and transfers on pre existing ceramics.
Exploring themes and techniques present in this work participants will use a combination of found and gathered imagery printed onto ceramic decals to up-cycle ceramic objects brought by participants.
For this workshop, students will need to bring a selection of their own finished greenware and fully fired glazeware to apply the printing techniques. This workshop is for our current pottery students and home or studio potters who are looking to learn new techniques.
Breakdown of activities the tutor aims to cover:
Introduction to ceramics and print
Demonstration of using onglaze decals on premade and bought ceramics (can be shop bought and/or handmade)
Using decals on premade and bought ceramics (can be shop bought and/or handmade)
Demonstration of using paper decals on greenware or bisque
Demonstration of Mono printing using casting slip and clay on plaster batts
Demonstration of Mono printing using powder and tissue paper on glass plates on greenware or bisque
Demonstration of scratch blocks
Using Paper Decals and Mono printing techniques
Demonstration of using photocopies to print (Optional will need access to a photocopier or participants to bring photocopies)
Demonstration of Screen Printing onto clay
Demonstration using sponge and stencils to print
Using screen, sponge, stamps stencil techniques
Please bring a packed lunch. Tea & coffee is available at the Centre.
If travelling by car, please park at Waterstone crook car park and make your way up to the centre. We have limited parking at the Centre which is reserved for blue badge holders and those with limited mobility only.
