 Introduction to Drawing and Painting

Details

Join artist Nicola Wiltshire for a playful day of painting and drawing.

Aimed at both beginners and those looking to shake things up a bit, this workshop will give you a taster of different materials and ways to apply them.

The day will start with a series of timed drawings, leading up to a longer mixed-media painting on canvas in the afternoon. By the end of the workshop, you will have experimented with a variety of wet and dry materials, including soft pastels, coloured pencils, collage and acrylic paint.

The workshop is an introduction to ways pattern, texture colour, line, form and composition can strengthen your painting, giving you a springboard for your own creative journey.

Nicola Wiltshire is a full time artist born in Bedfordshire and living in Dundee, with a Ba Hon's Fine Art - University of Westminster (2009) and an MFA Art and Humanities - DJCAD.

Nicola has taught at McManus Museum and Art Gallery, Discovery, Verdant Works, Royal Scottish Academy, as well as at schools, and community groups.

She mostly works in oil on fabric, with stylised drawings and paintings based on her everyday life, but also with pastels and ink on paper. Her subjects include people, places and still life.
Please bring a selection of materials that you wish to work with, some materials will be available at the Centre for those without an art kit.

Useful but not essential materials to bring would be: acrylic paint , paint brushes, palette knife, canvases, plain/coloured/patterned paper and drawing materials, such as pencils, graphite stick, charcoal, coloured pencils, oil pastels, and soft pastels.

There will be a selection of objects and images to work from, but feel free to bring something that's personal to you. If working from your phone, please make sure you have enough battery to have the screen on for the full session length.
