Join us in the woods for a full, hands‑on day creating your own freestanding axe block to use in your Forest School sessions. Throughout the day, you’ll have the opportunity to work with a range of traditional tools—including the axe, froe, saw, knife, shave horse and a cordless drill—to craft a block sized to suit yourself,and/or the children or clients you work with.
Guided by Emma Wiles, an experienced Forest School leader and skilled woodcrafter, you’ll learn safe tool use, green‑woodworking techniques, and how to shape, drill, and assemble a durable axe block from start to finish. Emma runs her own business, Finny’s Sweet Salvage, creating bespoke pieces from reclaimed wood and driftwood, and she regularly leads women’s woodcraft workshops across Surrey and Sussex.
You’ll also be supported by Abbie James, an experienced Forest School practitioner and Guide leader, bringing additional knowledge, encouragement, and practical expertise to the day.
This workshop is ideal for Forest School leaders, outdoor educators, and anyone wanting to build confidence with tools while making a useful, long‑lasting resource for their setting.
