Informations

A one day throwing workshop for those who have attended one or more of our throwing taster workshops or similar.

Spend the day improving your throwing technique and gain confidence at the wheel.

This is an ideal next-steps workshop for anyone who has experienced the basics of centering and throwing a pot and who wishes to gain confidence and improve their skills. You will be concentrating on learning by repetition and honing skills rather than aiming to make lots of pots. Particularly suitable as a follow-up for anyone who has attended one of our Beginner’s Throwing workshops.

Workshop outline

Rosie will demonstrate her throwing techniques, covering the basics of centering, pulling-up, shaping and finishing. She will then guide you through the morning throwing session and the group will look at the morning's results before taking a break for lunch.

In the afternoon, you will continue with throwing, exploring going beyond a cylinder to make a shape Rosie will demonstrate. If time before the end of the session, students may choose to refine their best throws to be kept by turning the base.

Further Details

You can keep a maximum of three pots which, after they have been bisque-fired, Rosie will glaze for you. They''ll then be fired again and ready to pick up three weeks later.  This is included in the cost of the workshop. Any other pots you make on the day you are encouraged to cut in half so you can review your progress, with the clay then being recycled.

Please note: If you are a current weekly student at The Clay Studio and would like to keep more than three pots, please label, weigh and pay for the extra ones and you can then continue with them during your weekly class.

There is nothing like a full hands-on experience, working within a group of like-minded people, and getting a good feel for the facilities, energy and atmosphere of the studio.

The throwing workshop is open to adults (16+), with a maximum of 9 attendees. Please note: If you have an implanted medical device please read HERE
