Dartmoor Awe Walk: A Mindful Immersion in Nature

Informations

We've probably all heard nature described as 'awe inspiring.' When we hear that phrase it might conjure images of snow-capped mountains, frothy waterfalls or vast plains, but awe can also be found much closer to home. On this Awe Walk, you will be invited to cultivate a mindset of awe, choosing to see your surroundings with fresh eyes. We will practice gazing, a mindfulness tool which can help bring relaxation and clarity, and root ourselves firmly in our bodies, on Dartmoor, in the present moment.

Starting from the Widecombe-in-the-Moor village green we will walk up a long and steep road hill, but after that the route is fairly flat and downhill at the end. We will pass Two Crosses and Wind Tor, where we will take in glorious views across expansive, open moorland. To end the walk, we will descend back towards Widecombe, crossing a small stream and passing through meadows and newly planted areas of native woodland.

Widecombe offers plenty of parking (cash needed, £2 in one carpark or £2.40 in the other), there are toilets and great cafes and pubs plus interesting shops, church and historical features. Those who join us for the walk may wish to stay and explore the village afterwards.

We advise you to wear walking footwear and trousers as there are ticks and adders around. Bring waterproofs, sunscreen, drinks and a snack. Gather on the green from 9.45am, as we will leave at 10am sharp. Please check your email before leaving home for any last minute communications about weather.
