Fashion-Able booking.

Fashion-Able is an initiative to promote individual power and control over spending whilst also fostering the notion that maybe we can have a more individualistic approach to our own style and contribute to applying the brakes to the ‘throw away fashion’ industry.

Clothes make us and we make clothes, our clothes are adaptable, changeable, and can become more reflective of us as individuals by us. Through creative mending, reworking, and re-designing we can transform our garments to suit us. Think of that shirt/sweater/dress that hangs in the wardrobe and is never worn because the collar or sleeves or fit is not right etc. The workshops will provide skills and support to transform these items of clothing to become favorite pieces that we value and feel proud of.
Fashion-Able provides workshops delivered by skillful creative people to enable alternative ways to ‘fast fashion’ that has a positive immediate and direct effect on our finances.

Fashion-able is about provoking and nurturing creative and playful thinking about ways of prolonging the life of the garment and bringing joy to the owner, building a community of menders and makers who can then pass on the skills they have learned enabling us to really slow down the way we shop, begin to tap into and celebrate our own resources, ideas and individual styles.

Collaboration is important to us. We are working to help give Doncaster creatives/makers, students and anyone! a platform and space to work together on projects that enhance their own practice or studies and wardrobe content! Ideas for workshops and events around the theme of re using are warmly welcomed and we would love to chat and see where we can support.

Part of our project is to bring creatives together through mini programmes of co curating where we showcase some of the work created, provide opportunities for selling the garments and develop further workshops and events that are most in demand.

A variety of free workshops will be held every weekend starting on the 29th October 22 until the end of December. The venues will also act as a place to sell and market services and wares for makers and artists.

This project is funded by the Space 2 Create grant through Doncaster Council, hosted by Right Up Our Street, ArtBomb and the Unitarian Church.
