Informations

Home‑Ed Welcome Welcome — Free Taster Session.

A gentle introduction to our home‑education woodland sessions at Hopyard Wood.
This free taster invites children and their grown‑ups to explore the wood, make new friends, and get a feel for the rhythm of our upcoming sessions. No agenda - no pressure.
We’ll spend time playing, creating, building confidence outdoors, and discovering the magic of learning in nature. Children are free to follow their curiosity while adults can relax, observe, and soak up the calm of the woods.
This session is perfect for families who are new to home education, curious about Forest School‑style learning, or simply wanting to see if our woodland space feels like a good fit.

Instructions

These sessions are aimed primarily at children aged 4-11 years and their grown-up. (if you wish to attend with younger or older children, please contact me directly on 079709 38566).

Hot chocolate & marshmallows will be provided during the session. Please inform us of any dietary requirements or allergies in advance.

Children should wear clothing and footwear suited to the Forest School environment, activities, and weather conditions. To reduce the risk of insect bites and stings, we recommend long sleeves and long trousers, regardless of the weather. Even on sunny days, the woodland remains cooler under the tree canopy. We also suggest bringing an extra set of named clothing to avoid losing items. For a complete list of recommended gear, please visit our website.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS:

Coming from Derby on the A52 (towards Ashbourne), on reaching Kirk Langley, turn right onto Flagshaw Lane, then take first right turn onto Lodge Lane signposted Kedleston. Proceed a short distance about 0.1 miles until you see the signs that show road narrows and public footpath. You will see that there are lay-bays on either side of the road with gates into a field. Our gate on the left immediately after the road signs and has a hardcore driveway, this is the entrance into our car park and is signposted Hopyard. If you reach Lodge Farm or Meynell Langley Garden Centre on the right, you have gone too far!!

We do have off road parking in a field which has been laid with a mesh layer to protect the ground but also to reduce mud and is safe for you to drive & park your car on. Please however note that parking is at your own risk and we cannot be held responsible for any instances of cars getting stuck (this hasn't happened at all but just in case). For drop off there are two laybys on Lodge Lane just outside our gates which can also be used to park, again at your own risk.

Getting to the wood involves a short walk through a small meadow. From the car park you will see a track heading down to the meadow and once there, turn left and you will see the wood in front of you (look for my land rover which is usually parked outside the wood). Please note the ground can be a little uneven & muddy in places.
