Join me for weekly postnatal yoga classes with baby in the heart of Colchester. The next 6-week course takes place from 22 April to the 27 May. You can either book in for the whole course or purchase drop-in tickets for greater flexibility.
About postnatal yoga:
A postnatal or mum & baby yoga class typically concentrates on building strength and easing tension within the body, while also incorporating relaxation and meditation techniques to help you catch up on rest and learn how to soothe your nervous system. Babies are welcome to join and there are toilets and baby changing facilities available on-site. Breastfeeding, bottle-feeding and pumping are all completely welcome.
One thing to keep in mind about parent & baby yoga classes is that they will never go according to plan: some babies will cry, some might want to feed, and others might insist on sleeping on you for the entire class. There are absolutely no expectations or rules when it comes to parent & baby yoga - everything is welcome and nothing is judged. You are welcome to show up exactly as you are and do as much or as little as you like. Even if you skip certain postures, don’t feel up to trying a breathwork technique, or have to rock your baby for the entire class, you’ll still be immersing yourself in a safe and nurturing space alongside other parents who know exactly what you’re going through.
Benefits of Postnatal and Parent & Baby Yoga:
…and so much more!
Guided by ancient yogic philosophy, each nourishing class includes strengthening and restorative asanas (postures), pranayama and breathwork techniques, a guided meditation and relaxation, and a soothing sound bath during shavasana. For the postures, I will offer different options so you can choose whether you’d like to hold baby or let them rest nearby. While these classes can be a wonderful opportunity for you to connect with baby, this is first and foremost a class for you: a safe time and space to fill your own cup.
SAFETY NOTE: Most mums are advised to wait until they are six weeks postpartum before returning to any form of physical activity, to ensure the body has adequate time to rest and heal. Please check in with your GP, midwife or physio before booking in for a postnatal yoga class. Remember - every postnatal journey is different.
IMPORTANT: Please bring a yoga mat and a pregnancy pillow, yoga bolster or large/firm cushion with you. Please also bring something for baby to lay or sleep comfortably on.
Wear comfortable clothes you can move freely in. I advise wearing layers so you can add/remove layers if you’re too hot or cold. Please bring a jumper/blanket and socks for shavasana (relaxation).
I have plenty of blocks and straps for everyone. I also have a few spare mats - please let me know in advance if you would like to borrow one. You’re more than welcome to bring any other props or items with you to help keep both you and baby happy and comfortable during your practice. You might also like to bring water (and snacks!) too.
PURCHASING A BOLSTER:
Let me know if you are interested in purchasing a yoga bolster, as I can get discounted rates through my wholesaler (Ekotex Yoga) - they are a great prop to use during prenatal, postnatal and restorative yoga classes, and can also double up as a breast/bottle feeding pillow once baby arrives. Each bolster is made from organic cotton and is filled with buckwheat hull or organic spelt husk to create a firm and supportive prop.
