Health & Wellbeing

The aim of the HSE Training Programme is to prevent chronic disease and support improved health and wellbeing across all stages in life. It reflects the Healthy Ireland vision that health and wellbeing is everyone’s responsibility. It also acknowledges that training is an effective way to enable communities and organisations to play their part in making Ireland a healthier place in which to live, work and play. HSE Training Programme, delivered by the Health Promotion and Improvement Service, delivers trainings through two avenues:

  1. Education Programme: In the 2024-25 academic year, in collaboration with the Department of Education, the HSE Education Programme delivered 98 trainings (mostly in-person) to teachers on a variety of topics. They included social and emotional wellbeing, physical activity, healthy eating, avoidance of substance misuse, (relationship and sexuality) and the development of a whole school approach to health and wellbeing. The purpose of this work was to further build the capacity of teachers to promote health and wellbeing among children and young people with the aim of reducing the numbers engaging in risky or unhealthy behaviour. In this way it should help reduce their risk of developing chronic disease in later life.
  2. Health and Wellbeing Training Programme: Training is an effective approach to enabling communities and organisations to play their part in making Ireland a healthier place to live, work and play. The purpose of the trainings is, working in line with the HSE’s Policy Priority Programmes, to prevent chronic disease and to support improved health and wellbeing. Trainings are delivered to a variety of audiences – such as staff within the health service and external partners including both statutory partners such as education and community and voluntary sector partners.
