Informations

🐆 Space for Yew Trip to Drusillas Zoo 🐆

Join us for a relaxed and supportive group visit to Drusillas Zoo, for 20 neurodivergent children and young people (0-25) and their families.

🕙 Arrival & Entry

We will meet outside the main entrance at 10:00am to collect tickets together.

Once inside, you are free to explore:
• as a whole group, or
• independently as a family,

whatever best suits your needs on the day. There is no pressure to stay together or follow a set plan.

🍴 Lunch Arrangements

Space for Yew will:
• purchase lunch for the children, and
• provide one hot drink for each adult.

Please meet us at the café at 12:00pm for lunch.
You are very welcome to bring your own packed lunch if that feels easier or preferable for your family.

We have asked Drusillas whether we can pre-order lunches to reduce waiting times and transitions, and we will keep everyone updated once this is confirmed.

🎟️ Carer Tickets (Free Entry)

Please only select a free carer ticket if you can provide valid proof on the day.

Drusillas allows one free essential carer for visitors who are in receipt of one of the following (evidence must be shown on the day):
• Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
• Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
• Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
• Attendance Allowance
• Access Card with the (+1) Essential Companion symbol
• National Disability Card (DID)
• Blue Badge

If valid ID is not brought on the day, Drusillas may require the carer to purchase a full-price ticket on arrival (approximately £27).

🌱 What to Expect on the Day
• Arrival:
There may be some waiting while tickets are organised. You are welcome to move around, step aside, or arrive slightly later if that feels more manageable just let us know.
• Exploring the Zoo:
Families can explore at their own pace. You can stay near the Space for Yew group, head off on your own, and rejoin at any point. There is no expectation to visit everything.
• Noise & Sensory Experiences:
Drusillas can be busy, particularly around rides and popular exhibits. You may encounter:
• animal sounds,
• crowd noise,
• music or ride noises, and
• strong smells near animals or food outlets.
Quieter spaces are usually available away from main paths and attractions.
• Lunch Time:
The café may be busy and noisy. Children can:
• eat with the group,
• sit separately, or
• eat outside if space allows.
Familiar foods, ear defenders, fidgets, and comfort items are very welcome.
• Flexibility & Regulation:
Children are free to:
• take breaks,
• regulate in their own way,
• leave activities partway through, or
• spend time in calmer areas.
There is no pressure to “join in” at any point.
• Support:
Space for Yew practitioners will be present to support emotionally and practically. Parents and carers remain responsible for their children at all times.
• Leaving Early:
If your family needs to leave early, that is completely okay and no explanation needed.
